BOONTON TOWNSHIP---Gordon R. Tasker, Jr. died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the N.J. State Firemen's Home, Boonton following a brief illness. He was 80. Born in Montclair, he grew up in Mountain Lakes and lived for over 50 years in Boonton Township. He graduated from Mountain Lakes High School in 1948. H served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Tasker was the superintendent of the Rockaway Valley Regional Sewerage Authority, Parsippany for 20 years before retiring in 1996. Gordon was a 50-year exempt member and ex-chief of the Boonton Township Fire Department, an honorary life member of the Wharton Fire Department and was extremely active with the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen's Association. He was a former Chairman and served for many years on the Board of Directors of the N.J. State Firemen's Home, Boonton. In addition, he served as a liaison from the Morris County Fire Departments to the 200 Club of Morris County. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nettie Inez (nee Harry); a son, Gordon R. "Chip", III of Boonton Township and two daughters, Linda G. Lyons of Hackettstown and Terry Jo Hansen of Groton, NH. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18th at 10:00 A.M. at the Mackey Funeral Home (mackeyfh.com), 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. The interment will be private. Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the funeral home with firemen's services held at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions in Gordon's name may be made to the N.J. State Firemen's Home, 565 Lathrop Ave., Boonton, NJ 07005. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
