Obituary of Jay A. Jacobus

Please share a memory of Jay to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jay A. Jacobus, of Olney, Maryland, formerly of Montville, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024. He was 77. Born in Madison, NJ, in November 1946, Jay spent most of his life in New Jersey before relocating to Maryland to be closer to family following the passing of his beloved wife, Linda, in 2009.

Jay graduated from Madison High School, earned his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and built a respected career as a consultant. A lover of the beach and spending time with loved ones, Jay found his greatest joy in the company of family and close friends. His conversations were often full of curiosity, humor, and a passion for life's deeper questions.

Jay is survived by his children, Amanda Schoch and her husband, Matthew of Silver Spring MD; Joseph S. Jacobus and his wife, Sara of Longview, WA; and Adam J. Jacobus of Rockaway, NJ. He was a proud grandfather to Samuel and William Schoch, and Jackson Jacobus, whose visits always brought him happiness. Jay is also survived by his brother, Dr. Frank Jacobus, and his loving nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jacobus, and his parents, Elaine (Wegener) Jacobus and Everett Jacobus.

A graveside service will take place on Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 am in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ, where Jay will be laid to rest beside his wife, Linda. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Jay’s life and the reunion of two souls who shared a deep bond in life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to World Central Kitchen. This cause reflects his appreciation for the way food brings people together in conversation and connection, something he cherished deeply.
