Obituary of Edna C. Austin

Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Edna C. Austin (nee Martin), age 97, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2023, after a life well lived.

Edna was a lifetime resident of Boonton and Boonton Township, NJ, as well as a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boonton. She was a graduate of Boonton High School in 1944 and the Moon Secretarial School in Manhattan in 1946. Edna started her career at the Boonton Molding Company and later worked at the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, from which she retired in 1987. She continued to be an active member in the New Jersey Bell Pioneer Organization.

As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Edna was a Sunday school teacher, President of the Women's Association, a Deacon, an Elder as well as a member of the Presbyaires choir.

Edna's love of travel took her near and far. However, her most favorite place was the Jersey shore, particularly Ocean Grove, Asbury Park and Point Pleasant. She loved to sit and watch the ocean as she ate a chocolate coconut patty or a Kohr's frozen custard!  She was a true "Jersey" girl.

Edna thoroughly enjoyed 20 years at Victoria Mews in Boonton Township. There she was very involved in the community, made many friends and created wonderful memories. She would study the activities calendar on a daily basis and plan her day (including phone calls) accordingly. Her favorite activity, without a doubt, was Bingo as she played her "lucky" cards.

Edna was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, John Austin. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jean Jones and her husband, Marc of Ohio; her grandson, Trevor John Jones, his wife Akane, and Edna's great-grandson, Ryu Lucas Jones, all of Japan; her cousins, Lois Estler, Donna Thompson and Paul Schumpert; and her great-nephew, Thurlow "Buddy" Martin.

A private family service will be held at a future date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted into the care of Codey & Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edna's name may be made to the Boonton Fire Department or the Boonton Township Historical Society, PO Box 362, Boonton, NJ 07005. To share a condolence or memory, please visit CodeyMackeyFH.com.
