Obituary of Alan H. Cook

The life of a giving man has ended too soon. Alan H. Cook of Montville, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Morristown Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family, after a very courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer. He was 61 years young.

Alan was born in Denville, NJ to Robert and Virginia (Henderson) Cook in July 1962. He grew up in Montville and graduated from Montville Twp High School.

Alan was a special Police Officer before joining the Montville Township Police Department in 1986, where he served 25 years. He was a Detective and retired with the rank of Sergeant in 2010. Alan was a proud volunteer firefighter at Montville Excelsior #1 where he served as a Junior firefighter for 4 years and 43 years as a regular firefighter. During his time on the department, he rose through the ranks of officers and was elected as Chief. He was also elected as President of the Fire Department. In his early years, Alan worked on his family’s farm - Cook’s Farm - in Montville. He also worked at Cain and Sons for many years.

Alan’s greatest love was serving others. When he was not giving back through service, he enjoyed personalizing his Nissan truck that he grew proud of. He was definitely known as a “car guy”. He spent many years working on his favorite fire engine - Engine 351 - which went on to win many trophies throughout the state. Alan enjoyed bowling and spent time with his many friends from the local fire departments in a bowling league where great memories were created. As a child, he enjoyed spending time on the family farm with his brother, Robert and cousins, Jeffrey and Richard.

Alan was predeceased by his father, Robert A. Cook; and is survived by his beloved wife, Christina Cook; his daughter, Brielle Cook; his stepdaughter, Alycia Cooper; his mother, Virginia Cook; his brother, Robert W. Cook and his wife, Giselle; his nephew and nieces, Robert T. Cook, Melissa Zabriskie and Rebecca Campbell; and many great friends.

Please join the family for visitation on Monday, December 11th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton. The service will be held on Tuesday, December 12th in the Funeral Home at 10:00am, followed by interment at Montville Reformed Church Cemetery, Montville.
