Obituary of Patricia Elizabeth Berlinghoff
Beloved family member Patricia E. Berlinghoff, a resident of Boonton, New Jersey, for more than 71 years, died Sunday, December 25, 2022.
Dr. Berlinghoff taught children in grades 2, 3, 4, and 6, in the East Hanover School District for more than 51 years. A highly effective teacher, she sought to help each student achieve their highest potential. She enriched her student’s education with an outstanding program in performance and all mediums of artistic development.
Pat was a volunteer on the Boonton Board of Education, spending long hours on policy training and networking to keep the local school system competitive and up-to date; she also served as its President. Pat was featured in the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America.
She loved to travel the world experiencing new cultures. After retirement Pat was a literacy volunteer, assisting immigrants to master English and become citizens. Her early German language studies supported her family genealogy research hobby.
Pat was predeceased in death by her parents, Charles and Beatrice Berlinghoff, and is survived by her cousins, Henry Ahner, Jean Neimeier, and Lucille Scholpp. A lifelong Presbyterian, she asked that her ashes be scattered, near her parents, in Boonton’s First Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
A memorial service honoring Pat’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Boonton, PO Box 157, Boonton, NJ, Attn: Scholarship Fund.
