Obituary of Karen C. Barlak

Karen C. Barlak, 74, of Boonton, NJ passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, after a long illness with her daughter by her side.

 

Born in April of 1948 to Frank and Lucille (Hawkins) Cook, Karen grew up in Parsippany, graduating from Parsippany High School in 1966. She worked at RFL Industries in Boonton Township, where she met Joseph S. Barlak and they married in 1971.

 

Karen joined Boonton Kiwanis First Aid Squad in October of 1977 and was an active member for more than 40 years. She held positions of lieutenant, recording secretary, board of directors, vice president and she was the first female captain.

 

Karen enjoyed boating, fishing, photography, cutting the grass in her yard, spending time at the beach and traveling the world.

 

She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, Joe, just 5 weeks ago. Karen is survived by her devoted daughter, Keri Fossum, her son-in-law, Matthew and her granddaughters, Christina and Meghan.

 

Visitation will be Saturday, September 24th from 9:30 – 11:00 am at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton, with a prayer service at 11:00am, followed by interment at Sts Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, all in Boonton.
