Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Devoted and Loving Mother, Mommom, Wife, Sister and Aunt

Doris Klaus Spergel of Boonton Township, NJ, formerly of Nutley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. She lived to be 94. She suffered from Alzheimer’s and dementia for the last 8 years.

Born in Newark, NJ to Casimir and Sabina Irene Klaus, Doris grew up in Newark with her 4 siblings. She deeply loved her sisters and brothers - Frances, Marion, Joseph and Robert - and they were extremely close throughout their lives. Doris had survived them all, which was so difficult for her and now they are all reunited.

Doris graduated from South Side High School in Newark, NJ and attended Rutgers University, working towards her degree in English and Literature. Doris loved dancing and there met Albert Spergel. She married the love of her life in 1954 and they moved to Bloomfield. Together they raised their family after settling in Nutley and moved to Boonton Township in 2017.

Doris worked as an Executive Assistant early in her business career. She helped support her beloved mother and younger siblings before marrying.

She was truly a trend setter. Once she had her first child, she worked remotely for the President of the Bloomfield Savings Bank. She kept this position until he retired. Doris then worked at the Nutley Town Hall for Mayor Lucy and several Commissioners. She retired from this job after 18 years. Doris loved her years of work in Nutley, where she made countless friendships.

Doris, "Big Dor", was truly the most gracious, giving and loving woman. She found joy in doing for others. There was always a smile on her face, a tune she'd be humming and a generous heart. She touched all who knew her. Her energy was boundless, and she accomplished so much during her life.

She was the most loving Mom and Mommom...finding total happiness in being part of her family's lives.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, "Big Al", she is survived by her devoted daughter, Lori Chopoorian and her cherished granddaughters, Lara and Anya; her son, Steven (Kay) Spergel and her granddaughters, Samantha and Kendra; and her loving nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM in the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair (PCUM), 53 Norwood Ave., Montclair, NJ 07043.
