I was on the varsity wrestling team in 1970 and 1971. Mr. Ward was the best. Without yelling or screaming he could bring out the best in people, but you knew if you let him, the team and yourself down, even if he didn’t say anything. He loved his team, and nobody wanted to disappoint him. His leadership style set an example for me to use for the rest of my life. Of all of the teachers I had at MHS he probably had the greatest impact. I remember that each year he had the varsity team at his house in Boonton for an after-season party where you really got to know him. I completely agree with what the other wrestlers have said so well.
Jim, thanks for being there,

I had Mr Ward as a teacher and wrestling coach during my time at MHS.He was one of the finest individuals I have ever met in life! He helped me develop into a good wrestler in high school and I was truly "match ready" at the college level.Mr Ward was a "good example" for all of his students and wrestlers! I am thankful that our lives intersected(using a Geometry term in his honor as a teacher). Sincere condolences to Mrs Ward and his entire family! May God be with you at this time of sorrow!

I, like my teammate and friend Jim Bellias had Mr.Ward for my HS wrestling coach. In 1969 six of us were District Champions and we won the District Championship, still to this day it is a highlight of attending Morristown HS and a testament to how good a coach Mr.Ward was.
He showed me his signature takedown move "the sugar-foot" and I used it in HS and college wrestling with great success.
He also helped me with my college selection ,including calling college coaches and getting me interviews.
I was disappointed because my college coaches couldn't hold a candle to him.He set the bar high.
We were lucky to have had such a hardworking ,funny, and caring mentor and role model.
There are people that leave indelible marks on our life and Jim Ward was one of them.
May he Rest in Peace

I wrestled under coach Ward from 1966 to 1969. He was a truly amazing man in the way he developed his team and drove us to excel. He was on the mats with us every, instructing us, encouraging everyone to be his best. Our team lost only 1 match in the 1968,69 season and won the District championship in under his watch. He helped me of the mats as well, guiding me through the college process. I will always be grateful that I had him a a mentor.
My condolences to the family

Arriving at MHS in 1973, I was blessed to teach in the AAP program.Three of the best, Jim, Joe, and Gil taught me how to help young people learn in the classroom and the competitive arena, and I am forever grateful. THANKS, John Barnicle

I had Mr Ward as a study hall monitor and an assistant coach but no classes with him. I remember him as a very classy and amenable person despite the limited contact we had. During one of my later visits to the school, he came up to me and greeted me by name - much to my surprise. My sincere condolences to his family ---- we've lost a good one!
