Obituary of John Patrick Walsh

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Patrick Walsh, of Boonton Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, after 94 years of a life well-lived.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou (Brydon), who was the love of his life throughout their 61 years of marriage. His three children, John Patrick Walsh Jr., Kathleen Walsh and Ellen Walsh are forever grateful for the deep love and guidance he always provided them.  His grandsons, Matthew Vincent Walsh and Timothy Joseph Walsh will always remember how much their grandfather loved them, as well as his daughter in law, Lorna Amaturo Walsh, who always enjoyed John’s warmth and welcoming.

John was born to Bartley and Nellie Walsh in the Fordham section of the Bronx and was a member of St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish. He was the brother of James and Margaret. Education was always a very high priority for John, and he was a very proud alumnus of Regis High School (Class of 1945) and Fordham University (Class of 1951). Upon graduation from high school, John served his country in World War II with the U.S. Navy. He was especially proud to serve and carry on the legacy of his father, Bartley Walsh, who served for the U.S. in World War I shortly after his arrival from his home in Ireland.

John raised his family in Wayne, NJ and lived in Boonton Township for the last 22 years.  He was a founding member of Our Lady of Consolation in Wayne where he was instrumental to the start of OLC’s school that his children attended.  More recently, he was a faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena parish in Mountain Lakes. John’s Catholic faith was always central to how he lived his life, how he raised his children and how he interacted with everyone he knew in business and in his personal life. Until his final days, John always welcomed everyone with a big, warm smile and a handshake. Always a salesman, John owned his own business selling office products and printing and served his customers well across Manhattan.

John and his family have been long-time members of Rockaway River Country Club where he always enjoyed a round of golf with his friends and family, but even more importantly, he cherished the great times at social events and dinners with so many of his friends, both young and old, and the staff whom he cherished greatly.

In his final years, John was able to celebrate his 90th birthday by visiting his father’s home in Ireland in County Mayo.

To honor and celebrate John’s life, a funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at 10 N. Pocono Rd in Mountain Lakes, NJ, immediately followed by a reception at Rockaway River Country Club at 39 Pocono Rd in Denville, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regis High School annual fund which makes an immediate impact, changing the lives of Men for Others and their families, at: Regis High School, Attn: Development Office, 55 E. 84th Street, New York, NY 10028.
