Obituary of Patrick James Smith

Please share a memory of Patrick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patrick Smith, 53, of Mountain Lakes NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Morristown Medical Center from injuries sustained when he was tragically hit by a car while doing what he loved the most - riding his bicycle.

Born in Doncaster, England, he moved as a baby to Canada. Patrick grew up in Oshawa and then graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He landed his first job at Nortel during which time he met Nicole.  They married in 1998 in Oakville, Canada.  In 1997 they started their exciting life adventures together and moved to the US - 8 years in Houston, Texas where their two kids were born; 11 years in Boulder, Colorado and the last 6 here in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey.

While in Colorado, Patrick completed his MBA at the University of Colorado. His career followed with Texas Instruments, Xilinx, Mentor Graphics, Marotta Controls and just recently Alteryx.  Patrick and Nicole added US citizenship to their British and Canadian citizenships in 2010.

Patrick had so many hobbies and adventures - living his life to the fullest - traveling, cycling, skiing, golf, hiking, gardening, breadmaking, playing guitar, home repairs, wood working, BBQ and cocktails for a crowd, to name just a few - all of which he embraced fully and with all the gear, research and energy to be the best.  And in all his adventures and stops along the way, he made amazing memories and friends which he adored.  Although Patrick's time with us was shorter than we all hoped, he wasted none of his time and filled every day of his life with enthusiasm, love and adventure.  He will be so very missed.

Patrick leaves his wife of 23 years, Nicole, his children whom he adored - Elliott (19) and Madeleine (17). He is also survived by his parents, Brian and Valerie; his siblings, Greg (and wife Grace, children Julia and Isabella), and Sharon (and children Gavin and Sonia); who we had the good fortune to have had a wonderful visit with in Canada in mid October after a long absence due to COVID lock downs.  He also leaves behind the entire Bennett family, of which he was a very loved and cherished member.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00pm at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave, Boonton, NJ 07005.

The family and their friends are invited to attend a private Celebration of Life on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Patrick's favorite place - The Rockaway River Country Club, 39 Pocono Rd, Denville, NJ 07834. We've cried so many tears, so now leave your sadness at the door, and bring your stories, your laughs, and your happiness over a life that was lived to the fullest - where we will come to celebrate the impact he left on all of us.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National MS Societor NJ Bike & Walk Coalition.
