Obituary of Florence W. Verhalen

Florence Wells Verhalen, 97, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020.  Born in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Florence served in the Navy during World War II.  While stationed in Washington, DC, she met and married her husband of 66 years, James P. Verhalen, who predeceased her in 2013.

 

They lived for six decades on the shores of Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, where they raised seven children and where Flo was active in the Hopatcong Women’s Club and volunteered for many years at the Well Baby Clinic.  Recently Flo lived in Denville, NJ.

 

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Wells Austin, her children, Ann Scocco, Joyce Pandolfi (Francis), Susan Dyer (William Randolph), James (Mary), Andrew (Janet Brownstone), Philip (Gina), and Kristina Turner (Norman), her twenty grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren.  She also is survived by her long-time care-giver and companion, Afi Sedenou.

 

Funeral services will be private in care of the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton. To share a condolence please visit www.codeymackeyfh.com.
