Betty Woodcock Coan, 87 MOUNTAIN LAKES – Betty Woodcock Coan of Mountain Lakes died Friday November 17, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center following a short illness. She was 87. Born and raised in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA she lived in Abington, PA for several years before moving to Mountain Lakes, NJ in 1964. After graduating from Simon Gratz High School, Philadelphia, PA in 1948 she worked as a payroll clerk for the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania and then for the Interstate Department of the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1972, Betty attended the Professional School of Business in Union, NJ and obtained her Real Estate license in 1973, working at several brokers throughout Morris County for nearly 15 years. In 1988 she joined Mack Financial Corp. as an Administrative Assistant, working there for 7-1/2 years before assuming a similar position at Xybion Corp. of Cedar Knolls, where she worked for 9 years, retiring in 2003. Betty was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church serving on the Altar Guild and Pastoral Committee for several years. She also gave back to the community in her role as Treasurer of The Town Club of Mountain Lakes for 2 years. The holidays weren't complete without a plate of her Christmas cookies; her kitchen was a workshop all December long as she crafted trays of seasonal treats to share with friends, family, and members of her church. Living in a house adjoining her family's gave her grandchildren quick access to their "Boop Boop," who would reattach lost buttons, iron special outfits, revel in soccer and lacrosse game feats, Irish dance competitions, graduations and work accomplishments. She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Dudley in 2003 and survived by her son Mark, daughter-in-law Tracy, and her three grandchildren, Casely, Zachary and Sophia. A memorial service and celebration of Betty's life will be held in the spring of 2018. Donations in her honor may be made to Atlantic Home Care & Hospice, 465 South Street, Suite 100, Morristown, NJ 07960.
