James Patrick Lawn, 75, of Boonton, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 after a very long battle with cancer, which he fought to the last minute. Born and raised in New York City, Jim moved to Boonton 46 years ago. James proudly served in the US Navy from 1958 – 1963. Jim graduated with an Associate Degree from County College of Morris. Mr. Lawn worked as a Construction Manager with Con-Edison in New York City for 41 years, retiring in 2003. Previously he was a member and shop steward for Local 1-2. He began a second career as a school bus driver for Van Riper Bus in Montville, NJ. He loved being called "Mr. Jim" and being a part of the children's lives. Jim was an active member of the community serving on the Boonton Fire Department for 43 years; he was the Treasurer and coach of the Boonton-Mountain Lakes Grayhawks; President and coach of the Boonton-Mountain Lakes-Rockaway Valley Baseball League; he was the Treasurer and Hall of Fame member of the Morris County Midget Football League; and a member of the Boonton Recreation Committee. He is survived by his beloved wife, of 51 years, Lorraine (Corps); devoted sons, James P., Jr. of Columbia MD, Stephen C. (Judy), of Wauconda, IL and Brian M. (Suzanne), of Annandale, NJ; loving grandchildren, Grace, Rachel, Christian and Megan; also by many nieces, nephews and many very close friends. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Florence (Wall) Lawn and a sister, Mary Wolverton. Visitation will be held in the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Ave., Boonton, NJ 07005 on Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 2 – 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 910 Birch St., Boonton on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 11:00 am. The interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Boonton.
