John E. Michko, 92, a lifelong resident of Boonton, NJ, passed away after a brief illness on November 24, 2014. John was born in Boonton, NJ to his parents, the late John and Cornelia Michko. After graduating from Boonton High School in 1940, he joined the US Army and served in the 1052nd Engineer Company during World War II. Upon his return from the war, he worked as a plumber for Michko Plumbing & Heating. Later he owned his own plumbing business John Michko Plumbing & Heating. Mr. Michko was an active charter member of King of Kings Lutheran Church. He was a member for over 50 years with the Boonton Volunteer Fire Department, an NJ Exempt Fireman and a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 124, Boonton. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily (Hooey), sister, Dorothy Basch and a great grandchild. Surviving are his devoted children, John G. (Patricia) Michko and Dorothy (Winfield) Darrow; dear sister, Ruth Bonanni; loving grandchildren, Michael, James, Donna, Emily, Stephen and Jamie; also 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton on Friday, November 28th from 3 - 7 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the King of Kings Lutheran Church, 145 Rt. 46 West, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046 on Saturday, November 29th at 10:00 am.
