MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP---Ernest A. Niles died Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York, NY following a long illness. He was 77. Born in Gloversville, NY he lived in Belleville before moving to the Towaco section of Montville Township in 1964. Mr. Niles was a certified safety professional and was the owner, founder (in 1974) and director of Ernest A. Niles and Associates, Towaco, a loss prevention consulting firm. He worked to the present. He received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1954 from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, RI and his master's degree in Safety and Health in 1975 from New York University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. Among his many professional affiliations, he was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and was past-president and member of the New Jersey State Industrial Safety Committee. He also was a member of the Carnival & Ride Advisory Board of New Jersey. Locally, he was a longtime member of the Montville Reformed Church and served as superintendent of the Sunday school for over 35 years. He also served as a liaison from the Montville Garden Committee to the Montville Recreation Committee. His leisure time was devoted to gardening, reading and playing with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ella M. (nee Duroska); four daughters, Deann E. Szatkowski and her husband George of Columbus, NJ, Karen M. Oberhofer and her husband, Edward C. of Charlottenlund, Denmark, Stephanie A. Conroy and her husband, John E. of Davis, IL and Lynn E. Arabia and her husband, Anthony S. of Rockaway Township; two brothers, Edwin E. Niles and his wife Paulette of West Lafayette, IN and Allen M. Niles and his wife Joan of Schenectady, NY; nine beloved grandchildren, Katherine, Rebecca and Daniel Szatkowski, Natalie, Stephen, Elizabeth and Michael Conroy and Alissa and Eleanore Arabia and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27th at 11:00 A.M. at the Montville Reformed Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Mackey Funeral Home (mackeyfh.com) 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. Memorial contributions in Ernie's name may be made to either the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America, Northern NJ Chapter, 14 Commerce Dr., Suite 301, Cranford, NJ 07016 or the Montville Reformed Church, 9 Church Lane, Montville, NJ 07045. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
