Please share a memory of Liza to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HANOVER TOWNSHIP---Liza Tkaczyszyn passed away quietly on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Morristown Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 90. Born in Ukraine and orphaned at birth, her adolescent through young adult years were spent bravely trekking through Europe, against a backdrop of communist revolutions and Nazi oppression with the hope of bettering her life. On the way, she met her husband, Teodor Tkaczyscyn. Surviving these clutches, she, her husband, and two young children fled to the safety of South America, where, in Brazil, they lived safely for 10 years. After clever correspondence, and saving enough money to move to America, they made their new home in Boonton, NJ in 1959. While in Boonton, she worked at Boonton Handbag and ran a boarding house to support her family. Thankful and patriotic, Liza became the matriarch of the family, and lived to know and love five grandchildren and ten great grandsons. Liza was fluent in many languages including Ukrainian, Polish, Russian, Portuguese and English and was not shy to start a conversation with a stranger whose dialect she recognized. Her passion was her family, ad the quality of the garments she knitted lasted generations. Among all of her amazing attributes, she was very spiritual, and credits God for helping her get through the difficult time, live a long life and thanked Him for her family. Her husband, Teodor died in 1968. She is survived by her son, Yury Tkaczyszyn and his wife Marge of Cedar Knolls; a daughter, Lena Besuglow and her husband Victor of Booneville, AR; five beloved grandchildren and ten cherished great grandchildren. Her Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, December 7th at 9:00 A.M. at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Whippany with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Friends may call Thursday (Today) from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Mackey Funeral Home ( www.mackeyfh.com), 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. Memorial contributions in Liza's name may be made to Morris View Healthcare Center, c/o Social Services, 540 W. Hanover Ave., Morristown, NJ 07960. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
