MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP---Eugene E. "Gene" Barnish died Monday, September 17, 2012 at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville following a brief illness. He was 81. Born in Morristown, he lived in Montville for the past 53 years. Gene graduated from Boonton High School in 1950, then proudly served with U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, during which time he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Barnish was a master plumber with Deerfield Plumbing and Heating Co., Boonton for 40 years before retiring in 1992. He was an exempt member and ex-chief of Excelsior Co. #2 of the Montville Township Fire Department and served for a number of years as a member of the Montville Board of Fire Commissioners. Gene was an avid outdoor sportsman and an equally avid Green Bay Packers fan. Most importantly, he always put his family first. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth (nee Tucker); three beloved daughters, Wandalee Merlot and her husband Greg of Tranquility Township, Nancylynn French and her husband George of Towaco and Lois Jean Glucksman and her husband Alan of Montville. Also surviving are his six cherished grandchildren, Ashley, Sarah, Leah, Amandalynn, Thomas and Alan Michael Eugene. Memorial visitation hours will be held on Friday, September 21st from 4-7 PM at the Mackey Funeral Home ( www.mackeyfh.com), 107 Essex Ave., Boonton. A memorial service will be held beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the conclusion of visitation. The interment will be private. Memorial contributions in Gene's name may be made to either the Montville Fire Department, 108 Main Rd., Montville, NJ 07045 or the Montville Township First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 446, 127 Changebridge Rd., Montville, NJ 07045. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
