Obituary of Ethna D'Addario

Please share a memory of Ethna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ethna D’Addario, of Boonton Township, NJ, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 16, 2023 peacefully at home. She was 97.

Ethna was born in Dublin, Ireland, to the late James J. and Madge (nee Gallagher) Callan. She was raised in Glenageary and immigrated to New York where she met her beloved husband, Bob D’Addario. The couple married in 1961 and moved to Montclair where they lived for a time before moving to Lake Hiawatha. In 1968, they settled in Cedar Knolls to raise their family before moving to Madison in 2001.

Ethna was devoted to her family, they were her pride and joy. When her children started their own families, Ethna and Bob were always there for them helping with the grandchildren. The family shares so many fond memories of holidays, birthdays and gatherings which were always made more fun by 'Nanny's' presence.

There are many things that Ethna’s family will remember fondly. Her sharp wit and sense of humor, her youthful spirit and, of course, her love of sweets. Ethna was a selfless, caring and giving woman. Her children and grandchildren thought the world of her, and she of them. She will be missed more than she could ever know.

Ethna was predeceased by her husband Bob (2018) and three siblings; her brother, Cual Callan; and her sisters, Mamie O'Sullivan and Dymphna O'Hagan. Left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Robert J. D’Addario and his wife, Karen; Linda P. Rubinaccio and her husband, Anthony; and Dr. Anna M. D'Addario; one sister, Madeleine Noone; her brothers, Turlough Callan and Declan Callan and his wife Alicia; nine cherished grandchildren, John (Jack) D’Addario, Robert D’Addario, Amanda D’Addario, Cara Dawes, Lianna Rubinaccio, Kaylie Rubinaccio, Christina Mangarella, Grace Roeder, and Declan Roeder; her adored great-granddaughter, Madison Dawes; and an abundance of loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 23rd at 10:00am in St. Vincent Martyr RC Church, 26 Green Village Road, Madison. Arrangements were provided by Codey & Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton. To share a condolence or a memory, please visit CodeyMackeyFH.com.
