Dear Ann and family: I first met Ed decades ago when he and Ann, then newly weds, came up to Worcester, Massachusetts, to visit her big tribe of Gannon aunts, uncles, and cousins. Then in my early teens, I was struck by Ed's spirited personality and friendly demeanor. No wallflower, he spoke up, expressing strong opinions on issues from politics, to sports, to current events. He was a gifted, good-humored, and entertaining storyteller for kids and adults alike. He was a rabid Yankee fan who won over Ann's extended family in the heart of the Red Sox nation. As an adult, I came to appreciate Ed's broad and lively intellect, his powerful grasp of history, his youthful curiosity about the world around him, and his bedrock commitment to family. He was a man of character and accomplishment who made his full life count for others. We wish for Ann and the Fody family the consolation of knowing that you all enriched Ed's productive life just as he did yours. His is a life to celebrate! Love, John and Mary Ellen Gannon
