Obituary of Mary Margaret Shay

Mary Margaret Shay, 79, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully at home, on Sunday, June 17, 2018, after a long illness. She lived her entire life in Boonton, NJ.  She was a graduate of Boonton High School and worked in the high school cafeteria for many years.

She was a dedicated member of the Boonton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years.  She was well known for her contributions of beautiful afghans to various fundraisers.  Mary's greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gus and Margaret Pappas and her brothers, Gus and Walter and a sister, Catherine.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Walter Shay; devoted children and their spouses, Nancy and Brent Close, Walter and Dagmar Shay, Gerald and Debra Shay; treasured grandchildren, Allen, Kevin, Jillian, Luisa and Christopher; loving sister, Janet (Robert) Bentley; dear brother, Henry (Julie) Pappas and brother-in-law Richard (Joanne) Shay; also many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ (today) Tuesday, June 19th from 5-8 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 20th at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton.  The entombment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ.  To extend condolences or share a memory, please visit codeymackeyfh.com.
