Elizabeth "Bette" Kuretich, 88, of Boonton, NJ, passed away, peacefully, at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville on Monday, May 29, 2017. She was born in Boonton, NJ July 27, 1928 to the late Ambrose and Marie Kuretich. She spent most of her life in Boonton before moving to Merry Heart in Boonton Township in 2010. Bette was a graduate of Boonton High School, class of 1946, and was a lifelong member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, where she was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Padre Pio Prayer Group, and served as a volunteer at the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima in Washington, NJ for many years. Bette was a goer and doer and loved being with people. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles. She served as a poll worker for the Morris County Board of Elections, and was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols-Wreath 6. She was also active in several Senior Citizens Groups. She worked for the Bell Telephone Company for 36 ½ years as a telephone operator & supervisor in Boonton, Morristown & Mountain Lakes. Following her retirement, she became a life member of the Pioneers of America in the Morris Area. During World War II, Bette was involved in the Civil Defense Patrol as a plane spotter. She was a fully accredited member of the Grounds Observer Corps of the U.S Air Force Air Defense Command. Bette is survived by her sister, Eleanor Banta, & her husband, William; her 3 Godchildren, Michael Bonsiewich of Troy, VA, Margaret "Peggy" Cochrane of Newport News, VA and Darlene Dougherty of Ledgewood, NJ. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brother, William in 2008, and her fiancé, Kenneth Banta in 1981. Visitation will be held in the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Thursday, June 1 from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Sts. Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church, 215 Hill Street, Boonton on Friday, June 2 at 10:30am. The interment will follow at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery in Boonton.
