Decorated World War II Veteran Recipient of Silver Star & Purple Heart Richard A. Johnson, of Parsippany, NJ, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center. He was 90 years old. Born in Irvington, NJ to the late Albert and Elsie (Fuchs) Johnson, Richard was the brother of the late Bernice Beckmeyer. Mr. Johnson proudly served in the US Navy and was a Decorated Veteran of World War II. He was the recipient of the Silver Star and Purple Heart. After his service in the US Navy he returned home and graduated from Farleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford, NJ with a Bachelor Degree in Economics. Richard retired in 1986 as the President of Richard Jayne Associates in Parsippany, NJ. An advertising company which he founded in 1961. An active member of the community, Richard was the First Commander of the American Legion Post 451 in Rainbow Lakes; Past President of the HUB Lakes League, Lake Intervale Management Assoc. and Big T Veterans Assoc.; member of the Navy League, North NJ Chapter and active in Parsippany politics. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Rose (Grief); devoted children, William R. Johnson and Cheryl L. McCauley; cherished grandchildren, Heather and Kristen McCauley; dear step-children, Sandra La Corte, Michael and Steven Porta; cherished step-grandchildren, Ryan, Brendan, Justin, Shawn, Devin and Darrin La Corte, Michael, Eric and Erica Porta. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family and honor Richard's memory at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 2-6 pm. The American Legion Post 390 of Denville will have a service on Saturday at 5:00pm. Graveside services and Military Honors will be bestowed at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
