I worked with Cliff in Linden for the last several years, he was a wonderful colleague. Recently I traveled to Texas on a temporary assignment, as I was getting ready to leave he told me that he wished he could have gone as well so in between work he could take advantage of terrific birding in the area. I was looking forward to telling him about all the birds I saw when I got home when I heard the news of his passing. Many people in McAllen told me they knew him and had fond memories, obviously his reach was far. Once a neighbors cat caught a bird I didn't recognize, I chased the cat and rescued the bird but thought it might not make it regardless but Cliff nursed the Rail back to health and released it. Having raised English Setters I had several pictures of Woodcock on the nest, hard to imagine but apparently it was one he had yet to take a picture of, I hope he is taking those pictures now! We miss you Cliff!

I share your sudden loss of your husband and father. As a coworker and friend for 25 years, we shared many hours working and talking of wildlife issues. Enjoyed his humor and always amazed to his wealth of knowledge. He must have had an iron stomach to injest such spicy food. Although retired now, I will miss seeing him at the inspection station when I visit. Rest in peace my friend.

I am very saddened to learn of Cliff’s passing. I had the simple and complete pleasure of spending time with him up at the Wildcat Ridge Hawk Watch where I watched in amazement as he conducted his remarkable relationship with the birds. I have memories of those times that I will always carry with me. To commemorate those times I have uploaded a number of pictures from the hawk watch.

Cliff was a wonderful co-worker. He was always very helpful and warm hearted! Working for the government that is very hard to find in a person. I enjoyed his conversations on our long trips from Linden to Pompton Plains and loved hearing about his foreign trips. He will be missed greatly in the NJ Linden PPQ office. May he rest in peace.

Cliff was a good friend and reliable colleague on the Mountain Lakes Woodlands Management Committee for many years. It was a privilege working with him. His vast knowledge and his humor and humility were a lesson for all of us. I used to tell our volunteers, " If you work with Mr. Miles, I guarantee that you will learn something." One young man who spent a day planting trees with Cliff was watched the entire day by a great-horned owl. Only with Cliff! Good-bye good friend. My life is richer for having known you. Your photo at the top of this obituary captures you at your best. Thank you for sharing it.

Clifford will be missed. We met on travel for USDA a great number of years ago – I can’t remember if it was on the Mediterranean Fruit Fly Eradication Program, or at a conference, but he left a lasting impression on me as he talked about his bird watching and outdoor activities. I have thought of him often over the years.
Take care and may God bless you as you find comfort in your fond memories of the time you had together.
