Obituary of Thomas Albert Smith
Thomas Albert Smith of Mine Hill, New Jersey, formerly of Montville, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the age of 67.
Tom was born in Dover to Floyd and Gladys (Sharp) and grew up in Montville. A graduate of Montville Class of 1977, he worked first for his father's sewing business, then at Boonton Lanes, where he developed his love for the game. Tom received awards for 3 separate 300 games.
He went on to work for Eaton and lastly Baker Hughes, an energy company previously part of GE. He was a senior mechanical technician and was considering retirement.
Tom was a volunteer fireman with Montville Fire Department in his younger days. He loved playing horseshoes with the Towaco Ringers, and bowling with his leagues at Boonton Lanes and Circle Lanes. Tom could be found rooting for his NY Giants in the fall and the NY Mets in the summer. He loved listening to music, especially Led Zeppelin, as well as dancing every chance he could. Tom was always the life of the party. He enjoyed swimming and having barbecues at his folks’ house. Tom took his family to upstate New York on camping trips known as “family hicnics.” Any time spent with his daughters was the best time. He enjoyed going to Wednesday night trivia with his girls the most. Tom truly loved his family, friends, and beloved dog Robby.
Predeceased by his beloved mother, Gladys; and just this January, his father, Floyd; Tom is survived by his cherished twin daughters, Kayla and Chelsea Smith; the mother of his children and close friend, Toni Smith; his sisters, Caroline Smith (Sharon King) and Tammy Yaworsky (Lloyd); his nieces, Taylor Greene (Eric) and her son, Riley; and Cheyenne Yaworsky; his god-daughter, Maggie Mitchen; and all his many friends.
