Obituary of Artelissie Dare Chammings

Please share a memory of Artelissie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Artelisse Dare Chammings (nee Banta), 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026 after a brief illness. She was a Boonton girl to the end.

As a young woman, Artie worked as a fashion model in New York City, most notably for Lee Knitwear’s Swimplay Suits. She married Kenneth L. Chammings on May 16, 1948. The couple chose to stay in their hometown of Boonton and raise their family on Lake Avenue, a truly special neighborhood where folks looked after each other.

After working for the family business, Rasmussen’s Meats, Artie went on to manage Charter Savings Bank, where she maintained lifelong friendships with colleagues. In retirement Artie enjoyed traveling with her husband, attending shows at the Paper Mill Playhouse, time spent with friends and various women’s groups, completing the daily crossword puzzle, and watching Wheel of Fortune, of course! She adored the world of fashion and was an expert seamstress in her own right.

Artie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny; daughter, Jill Ann Chammings; son, Dennis Leroy Chammings; and sister, Glenna Hadden. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Chammings and wife Barbara; daughter-in-law, Colleen Chammings; granddaughters, Dare Chammings, Ashleigh Boissonault, Alexandra Arango (Max), Monica Griffiths (Will), and Keri Seidl (Chris); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Artie was also a proud “Gigi” to Kenny, Arlo, Deirdre Jill, Addisen, Asher, Benjamin, and Brandon. They will miss her hugs.

Please join us in a celebration of life on Saturday, June 6th from 10am-12pm at Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, Boonton.  A service will commence at 12:00pm and interment at the Rockaway Valley Cemetery will follow. Come as you are and bring a happy memory to share!
