Obituary of George Hayes, Jr.

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George Hayes, Jr. of Boonton, NJ went home to the angels on Friday, August 22, 2025 at home, surrounded by his family, after a short illness. He was 76 years old.

Born in December of 1948 in Morristown to George and Dorothy (Gwaltney) Hayes, Junior, as he was known, was one of nine children in their big loving family. He attended Boonton Schools. Junior worked for Mini & Son, maintaining their facility in Boonton; Tredway; Fisher-O'Hara Moving; and Hicks and Sons Moving Company.

Junior was a good man. If you were ever in need of anything, he would help you - the caliber of man that would give you the shirt off his own back. Junior was a hard worker and a devoted family man - father, brother and uncle. He loved to get out and walk all over Boonton.

Predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Otilia, Georgia Lee, Thomas (Peanut), Donny, Roberta (Cookie), Dorothy and Barbara; Junior is survived by his sister, Gail Hayes-Young and her husband, Aaron; his daughter, Denise Chaney; his grandson, Beau Chaney; his many loving nieces and nephews and their families; as well as his friends and neighbors.

A Service will be held on Sunday, September 14th at 3:00pm in the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Boonton. The burial of ashes will take place on Monday, September 15th at 10:00am in Greenwood Cemetery, Boonton.
