Obituary of Leona Jean Johnson

Please share a memory of Leona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Leona Jean Johnson, longtime resident of Pine Brook, NJ, passed away July 2, 2025, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was 94 years old.

Leona was born in March 1931 to Ernest and Mabel (Snuggerud) Taylor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Leona met Raymond Johnson, and they married in 1950. Raymond was in the U.S. Navy so as a military wife, she followed him all over the USA while raising a family of five children. Their 25th move landed them in Pine Brook, NJ - their final destination. Raymond, using his expertise in Gas Turbine Engines, opened RA Johnson, Inc. where Lee became his bookkeeper.

Lee was best known for being a friend to everyone she met. She was often called the “Energizer Bunny” as she made sure that people who were important to her were well taken care of. Lee’s love for her family was abundant, nonjudgemental, and unwavering. Her bright smile and caring heart have left a lasting memory on us all.

“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun. Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.”

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Ray, she is survived by four children, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Following the private church service at Holy Spirit Lutheran, she was buried next to her husband in Greenwood Cemetery, Boonton. Arrangements were provided by Codey & Mackey Funeral Home of Boonton. To share a condolence or memory, please visit CodeyMackeyFH.com.
