The family of Marty Lynn Homeijer is sad to share that she peacefully passed Monday, April 12, 2021 at her home in Boonton, NJ.
Marty was the spirited daughter of the late Howard and Betty Ann Mackey. A lifelong Jersey girl, she was born in Newark and raised in Essex Fells and Mountain Lakes. She fell in love with, and later married, Charles Homeijer, the boy who lived across the street from her father’s funeral home in Boonton. Marty and Charles remained in Boonton, where they raised their children, Matthew and Jesika, as well as many dogs, a few bunnies, and a bird or two.
She was a warmhearted office administrator for Doctors Leviss, Hirsch & Bissinger for 20 years. Marty was also a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boonton where she was an ordained leader, and lifelong member of Presbyterian Women and handbell choir. She played the hell out of those church bells.
Marty was truly one of a kind; caring, compassionate, nurturing, and creative. She was quick-witted, endlessly silly, loved a good scare, and was usually laughing - the kind of laugh that made everyone else laugh with her! She was fun to be with, and always ready to share a good story and a glass of wine on the deck, surrounded by her treasured bird feeders and wind chimes.
When Marty wasn’t caring for others, she could be found admiring nature, taking long walks with Charles and her dogs, knitting by the fire or with her nose deep in a good book. Everyone loved Marty. She was a close friend and confidant to many, with a sympathetic ear, homemade limoncello, and a few thousand homemade cookies in tow.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles H. Homeijer; children, Matthew and Jesika; brothers, Dean, David, and Keith Mackey; grandchildren, Silas, Lily, Levius, and Indigo.
She was a ray of light, she made our lives full, and we love her very much. A celebration of Marty’s life will be announced when it is safe to gather. BRAWR!
