Obituary of Eleanor Alice Higgins

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor Alice Higgins, a lifelong Boontonite, returned to the Lord on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, just after celebrating her centennial birthday on October 18, 1915. Eleanor was a proud 100 year resident of Boonton, NJ. She worked in her hometown at St. John's Episcopal Church and J.J. Newbury's for many years. She was most dedicated to her church and was the oldest living member of the Altar Guild in the N.J. Episcopal Church. She spoke endlessly about Cedar Lake and Brockville, Ontario where her father was born and the family spent every vacation on Higgins Island. She also loved to go to Atlantic City and play the slots in her later years. Eleanor was a self-proclaimed "saver of things." She was an avid Yankee Fan where she boasted about going to NY alone and getting into Yankee Stadium for only 70 cents on Lady's Day! She was proud and devoted Boontonite; enjoyed the parades, Harmony Drum Corps and their practice sessions on Green Street and her front porch. Surviving are her nephew, John Higgins of Gig Harbor, WA; two nieces, Bonnie Higgins Collins of Philadelphia, PA and Mary Louise Higgins Bednar of Boonton, NJ; also numerous great nieces & nephews. Family and friends are invited for visitation at the Codey & Mackey Funeral Home, 107 Essex Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005 on Friday, October 23 from 4 – 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Episcopal Church, 226 Cornelia Street, Boonton, NJ 07005 on Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 am. The interment will follow at Boonton Cemetery. To share a memory or extend condolences, please visit www.codeymackeyfh.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John's Episcopal Church in Eleanor's memory would be greatly appreciated.
