Richard Dudley Harvey Retired Vice President of The Coca-Cola Company Richard "Dick" Dudley Harvey, 91, of Mountain Lakes, NJ, formerly of Montclair, NJ, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 215 Boulevard, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046 on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11:00 am. Born in Atlanta, Ga he was the son of June Dudley and Robert Emmet Harvey. He was raised in Atlanta and Denver, CO. Harvey's Education was at Denison University 1941-42 and University of Denver 1945-47. Bachelor of Arts. He was a member in Omega Delta Kappa (leadership) and Phi Beta Kappa (scholarship). He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942-1945 and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. Most of his career was with The Coca-Cola Company 1948-1976. Harvey worked in St. Louis, Denver and Atlanta –ranging from district sales representative to Vice President-Director of Marketing. He was the "first brand Manager" for the product Coca-Cola and as such introduced management to brand planning instead of just department planning. He was instrumental in the planning and introduction of Sprite, Tab and Fresca. He often said he left the company when management direction changed from being innovative to a more conservative approach. He was a member of the Commerce Club and the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, GA. Dick spent a year at the Olympia Brewing Company as Vice President, Sales and Marketing, before Moving to Seattle to form his own consulting company. Sound Marketing Services. He was one of the founders of the Seattle chapter and earned the designation of Certified Management Consultant from the Institute of Management Consultants and was later named a Fellow of that organization. He also helped found the advertising and marketing group, Marketing Communications International and served as president. A prolific writer and speaker, he worked closely with the Chamber of Commerce in both preparing and participating in a number of marketing activities designed to increase professional standards. He served as a volunteer with the National Executive Service Corps. For the past 20 years or more he has served as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Roman Meal Baking Company, Tacoma, WA. While in Seattle he was a member of the Rainier Club and the Seattle Tennis Club. An avid Episcopalian for most of his life he served for 27 years as Vice Chairman of the Episcopal Radio and TV Foundation in Atlanta developing ways to utilize radio and television. He was also active in the local Episcopal Church in each city in which he lived. In recent years he has been retired, doing volunteer work in the community and with the National Executive Corps. The deceased is survived by his wife, Catherine McFarland Harvey and daughter, Louise Dudley Harvey of Santa Barbara and three stepchildren Catherine Dickson, Randolph, NJ, Roger McFarland, Belleville, NJ and Elizabeth Clark, Monmouth, NJ and three grandchildren, Andrew, Sarah Dickson and Emily Clark.
